The geology necessary for good CCS

One again, the world’s a flutter with discussion over Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). America has just injected a billion dollars into building a new “Clean Coal” plant, and yet, one of the tenants of this is capturing and storing the CO2 output. Wired.com picks up the story from here:

One major problem is that no one has actually tried to bury CO2 in huge quantities, or as industry folks would say, at scale. Without real-world testing, it’s hard to know whether it will be possible to scrub the CO2 from our coal plants at a reasonable cost.

Wired.com has more on the issues of CCShere, and again points out just how challenging this task is going to be.

To quote someone famous, the problem with “Clean Coal” is that it is still coal.
